Hello, welcome to the London Plus newsletter for April. Hopefully you are feeling the benefits of the brighter evenings as much as we are. Things are starting to warm up in London, too, which is a welcome sign that Spring is finally here.

We hope you are feeling well rested after the long weekend and ready to have a productive week. Start your week off well with this newsletter, and take a look at all the latest news, upcoming events, funding opportunities, and most recent resources to help your practice.

Cost of Living Documents
London Plus now has three Cost of Living documents available, which all serve different purposes. First, the resources document contains information on how people can get support. Second, the good practice document has a list of examples of good organisational practice and innovation aimed at mitigating the impacts of the crisis. Third, the data document includes an ever-growing list of the available data relating to the crisis. Click the link above to see all three.

News

News: Glasses on Newspapers

Emergency Alerts
You may have heard the news that the UK government’s Emergency Alerts system is now live. This new initiative will enable people to be contacted via their mobile phone if lives are at risk in an emergency, such as during severe flooding. The system will be tested nationally on Sunday 23rd April. See this toolkit for suggested communications.

Third Sector Awards
The Third Sector Awards are an opportunity to celebrate voluntary organisations and the people that work for them. Nominate your organisation for a chance to shout about your charity and the amazing work you do. The early bird deadline is Wednesday 3rd May.

Volunteers Week (1-7 June)
The 2023 Volunteers Week website is now available. It contains everything you need to know about the week, including a communications pack and information on events.

Refugee Week (19-25 June)
Refugee Week is approaching. If you’d like to hold an event, their website has loads of useful information and advice.

The Met Turnaround Plan
The Metropolitan Police has launched a Turnaround Plan, which aims to achieve more trust, less crime, and high standards. You can read the Turnaround Plan and take part in a survey on the topic.

This conference from The Kings Fund will discuss the impact of community-led approaches to health and wellbeing. It will explore what can be done to build on community interventions and solutions to health. Please note that this is a paid event.

Cost of Living Tracker
Trust For London’s Cost of Living Tracker is now live. It shows how much households need to spend to maintain consistent living standards. This will prove useful for anyone looking to keep up to date on how the Cost of Living Crisis is affecting Londoners. It explores in detail how some groups are hit hardest, which exacerbates existing inequalities.

Check out this podcast episode from Charity Digital, which centres around a discussion of the main Cost of Living Crisis challenges of 2023.

Flexible Datasets
The Office for National Statistics has introduced flexible datasets to Census 2021 data, so you can make useful personalised datasets on all sorts of categories and demographics. This could be very useful when talking about data in your organisation!

Data Storytelling
Communicating data is important for many organisations, but making data both informative and digestible can be difficult. This blog explains how to communicate data through ‘data storytelling’.

Community Fridge Network

Latest funds for your organisation

London City Airport Fund
If you operate near London City Airport, you can apply for this fund. It aims to enable positive change for communities in the area.
Deadline: Friday 21st April, 5pm

Capacity Building Fund
Create Equity are offering unrestricted grants of up to £70,000 for Black, Asian and minority-led organisations. The grant should help to deliver services in areas including finance, marketing, and project management.
Deadline: Tuesday 2nd May

Legal Support
The Access to Justice Foundation is working with the Ministry of Justice to offer the Improving Outcomes Through Legal Support grant programme. The funding will help to support access to early social welfare and family legal support.
Deadline: Friday 5th May

The Anchor Programme
City Bridge Trust are looking to provide long-term funding to organisations that support frontline groups. Organisations must demonstrate commitment to addressing marginalisation and discrimination experienced by those with intersecting identities.
Deadline: Monday 8th May

Lloyds Bank Foundation
This grant from Lloyds Bank is for organisations working to influence those in power to tackle inadequate systems of support, such as the social security system, accommodation, and systems for Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
Deadline: Friday 19th May

The Fore
Apply for unrestricted grants of up to £30,000, which can be used for whatever your organisation needs to grow, strengthen, become more efficient or resilient. The Fore also offers feedback for every applicant.
Deadline: None

Boost
This Trust supports charities and non-profits that focus on sport. They offer small grants of up to £750, as well as bigger grants where appropriate.
Deadline: None

Aviva Community Fund
The Save our Wild Isles Community Fund aims to revitalise the natural environment in local communities across the UK.
