London Plus has recently the Creative Health Framework which supports the Arts, Cultural, and Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sectors to identify and communicate the impact of creative health activities.
In this blog, find out more about one of the organisations involved in this project – Art4Space.
What does Art4Space do?
Art4Space uses arts and creativity as a catalyst for change, and is an award-winning Community Arts Centre with over 25 years experience.
We champion art as a pathway to individual and community wellbeing, and social inclusion. We offer a wide range of workshops and courses for all ages and abilities. Our mediums include mosaic, ceramics and textiles. Art has a power to transform lives, that’s why we are committed to providing accessible art & design education for individual and community growth. Enabling individuals seeking wellbeing, purpose and connection to find mental health, holistic wellness and belonging through artistic expression.
Every action we take benefits our community and this is solidified by our statuses as a Community Interest Company (CIC). We have supported over 40,000 individuals with cost-free community arts programmes for those with mental ill health, and facing social isolation and exclusion.
We are based in Lambeth, London, but work citywide and nationally.
What are the values of your organisation?
We value connection, bringing together creative minds with a shared purpose and sense of belonging to take unified action. We value creation using art and design to develop innovative solutions for individual and community growth. We value change and believe in a holistic approach to wellness, which is essential for maintaining creative health and well-being. We value sustainability and are committed to using practices that support economic, social, and environmental outcomes.
What communities do you support?
Art4Space supports locals within Lambeth, but also wider London and across England. Known as the Creative Heart of Lambeth, our centre offers a unique and inspiring environment for everyone to explore their creativity and learn from professionals. We are committed to helping people discover their artistic potential. We provide a vibrant community of makers where collaboration and innovation can flourish. Everyone is encouraged to express themselves through the arts, and we celebrate creativity in all its forms.
How do you make a difference to people’s wellbeing?
We offer a wide range of community-driven services, as well as crucial peer support in a co-created space.
What project are you particularly proud of?
We are very proud of our social prescribing and peer support offerings in general. There are also a few projects like Why Art Matters and Social Action Programme that we have loved running. With our projects and services we reach 600 participants per week!
Why did you decide to get involved in this project?
We believe it’s important to find cohesive and clean frameworks and monitoring tools, and hope that this project will deliver this.
