Pension credit

The Mayor is now extending the Pension Credit awareness campaign for a third year, with an estimated £10 million more in Pension Credit likely to be claimed, along with the Winter Fuel Payment, valued at up to £300 per household. Check eligibility for you or your clients here. You can also check eligibility for Cold Weather Payments here.

Civil Society Almanac

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations’ annual ‘Civil Society Almanac‘ gives us cutting-edge data, trends and insights from the 166,000 voluntary organisations in the UK. The 2024 almanac has just been released! Take a look to find the most up to date information about the sector.

Sustainable Healthcare

Centre for Sustainable Healthcare has just launched their new bespoke learning platform to make it easier for voluntary sector organisations and healthcare professionals to engage with their content.

Physical health

Fun and Moving‘ is a digital rehab, health and wellness platform. The site has 1500+ ‘medically approved’ routines, and you can get a free 14 day trial. For more information, contact Pat@FunAndMoving.com.

Free kitchens

John Lewis has partnered with Rehome to offer their old display kitchen units for free! if your preferred listing is Priced or states ‘Accepting offers’ ignore this as it will not apply.

Warm spaces

Good Practice Mentors have created a special resource to provide organisations with top-tips around how to create a Warm Welcome and produce communications to reach the people you’re not currently meeting.

Digital support

The Good Things Foundation have free digital training available through Learn My Way. You can also apply for free devices and data if you are supporting people to get online.

Heart starters

The Heart Starters campaign from the London Ambulance Charity wants to get more defibrillators in high-priority communities. Find out more about the campaign here, and contact londamb.heartstarters@nhs.net if you can help.

Reports

The Race Equality Foundation

The Race Equality Foundation has released a new report, ‘Social Prescribing, Health Inequalities and Black, Asian and Minoritised Ethnic Communities‘, calling for more consistent and rigorous ethnicity data collection in social prescribing, a non-medical intervention that aims to address health inequalities. Health service cost

This report from the National Academy for Social Prescribing looks at the impact of social prescribing on health service use and cost. It suggests connecting people to groups, services and activities in their communities can reduce pressure on NHS services.

Health Equity Network

Speakers and workshop facilitators have provided slides from the Health Equity Network conference 2024.

Inclusion health

The Local Government Association has produced a report with insight on how to work with inclusion health groups, highlighting case studies from around England.

Community assets

The National Churches Trust’s ‘The House of Good: Health‘ report demonstrates that the contribution of the church to community wellbeing would cost the NHS £8.4 billion a year to deliver. This is the equivalent to nearly 4% of all UK health spending and the same cost as employing 230,000 nurses.

Neighbourhood health

The NHS Confederation, in partnership with Local Trust and PPL, has just released a new report, ‘The case for neighbourhood health and care.‘ It underlines that ‘the support to change lives effectively exists in our neighbourhoods, but only if public sector resources and community assets can be brought together in the right way.

Health inequalities & community development

The London Health Inequalities & Community Development Network has sadly come to an end. It had a focus on combatting community development challenges at a local, place-based level, and on amplifying the significance of community development approaches within local, regional, and national policy discussions. The resources they have produced can be found here.

Greening programme

Here you can read about the impact of restorative and regenerative green spaces for vulnerable people.

Local environment

Read about how local environment is perceived in daily life, and the context of access inequality for ecosystem services in urban areas.

Nature connectedness
This study examines the effects of a gratitude journal exercise on nature connectedness, psychological well-being, and engagement in wildlife including urban areas.
