The Power of Small: A New Report from NCVO
Small charities are the powerhouses of our communities. They reach people and places that others don’t, providing vital support grounded in deep local knowledge and strong trust from those they serve. NCVO’s new report, Power of Small, highlights the vital contribution these organisations make – and calls for stronger, more intentional support from those that enable them to thrive.
The report is clear – small charities face significant systemic challenges, including broken funding systems and exclusion from decision making. The report shines a spotlight on how infrastructure bodies, funders, and policy makers can play a key role in amplifying small charities’ voices, providing practical support, and ensuring no organisation falls through the cracks.
At London Plus, small charities are the beating heart of our capital, with 18% of small charities operating here1. Yet, despite their reach and impact, 76% of these organisations work with an income of under £100,000 a year – often stretching limited resources to meet complex and growing needs. This makes the role of infrastructure even more critical: to connect, support, and advocate for these organisations so they can focus on what they do best.
NCVO’s report is a timely reminder that investing in small charities means investing in the resilience and wellbeing of our communities, supporting the smallest organisations doing the biggest work.
