London’s Health Mission

London faces deep, persistent health inequalities: many communities experience poorer health and shorter lives because of wider social and economic factors that shape wellbeing.

London’s Health Mission Board includes senior representatives from the GLA, Local Authorities and NHS and aims to close the gap in health inequalities across the city by 2035 by making the most of London’s innovation and digital transformation.

London Plus are working with Croydon Voluntary Action and Superhighways to engage the voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) in this work.

VCFS organisations play a vital role in London’s health ecosystem – providing support services, building trust with communities, and advocating for the wider factors which affect health and wellbeing.

To tap into the knowledge and insights in the sector, London Plus is setting up a VCFS Health Reference Group which will meet 4 times in 2026 and 2027 to discuss the following key issues:

  • Support two-way communication between the Health Mission and the VCFS sector
  • Act as a sounding board for Health Mission proposals
  • Share ideas and insights about how digital opportunities can help reduce health inequalities with the Health Mission

We will hold six themed sessions to explore how digital inclusion can help reduce health inequalities for some communities affected by digital exclusion and poor health outcomes, including:

  • Homelessness
  • Older people
  • Migrants
  • Visual impairments
  • Learning disabilities
  • Low-income communities

We also recognise that there will be intersectionality between these groups and interaction with other forms of structural and health inequalities and will aim to explore this in the themed sessions.
